COSMIC SHORES

COSMIC SHORES is a little different from what’s come before. I’ve colloquially been referring to this series as “adventure novels” for a while, and it’s an apt descriptor. Cosmic Shores is a series of independent, stand-alone novels that can be read by newcomers and Amaranthe veterans alike, in any order.

Each novel represents a fresh entry-point into this universe and an opportunity for new readers to discover its wonders. Each one is a self-contained story with a complete resolution at the end, free of cliffhangers—isn’t that a crazy notion? They are shorter than the Riven Worlds novels by a fair margin (I’m targeting 70-90K for each book)—not because they won’t be as deep, but rather because they will focus on a single main plot and 1-4 POV characters. This is a new style of writing for me, but I never want my books to become dull, repetitive or predictable.

So what are they about? Well, following the events of Riven Worlds, some of our most beloved characters are going to venture out beyond the safety of Concord’s borders, encounter new and exciting alien species, and get themselves into bucketloads of trouble.

Marlee is first up, and you can learn more about her book, Medusa Falling, below. Book Two follows Eren (with a solid assist from Nyx) on his own wild adventure in The Thief, and Book Three will feature Alex and Caleb doing what they do best.

While this nominally makes Cosmic Shores a trilogy, I’m thinking I’ll leave it open-ended as an avenue to tell more stand-alone stories in the future. With that in mind, who else would you like to see get their own adventure? I’m not even going to make suggestions—you just tell me who you think deserves a book of their own (see the poll below or go HERE to vote).

How does one author possibly do it? GS Jennsen has delivered over two dozen novels and novellas over 10 years, hosted spine-tingling adventures across space, maintained the narrative integrity for dozens of unique and complex characters, and spurred the readers’ insatiable hunger for more.

MEDUSA FALLING

* A stand-alone adventure set in the Amaranthe universe *

“Can I ask where we’re going?”

“Someplace safe…as safe as anywhere on this broken, fallen world can be.”

A first contact encounter isn't supposed to kick off with a dead body.

Ambassador Marlee Marano has been dispatched to Belarria as part of a Concord initiative to meet new species and build alliances. But when an assassin murders her counterpart in front of her eyes and takes her hostage, she is plunged into an alien world on the brink of collapse.

With no way to contact Concord or get offworld, Marlee’s only allies may be a shadowy band of rebels with a questionable agenda steeped in government conspiracies, mysterious genetic experiments and bloody historical grievances that threaten to boil over. The rightness of their cause is the least of her concerns, though, for she finds herself wanted for murder and hunted by all sides.

Medusa Falling is a heart-pumping sci-fi adventure that will take you on a roller-coaster ride of twists and turns as Marlee races to uncover the secrets and lies of a captivating but deadly alien culture and find a way home.

THE THIEF

* A stand-alone adventure set in the Amaranthe universe *

The Hesgyr are thieves. “Scavengers,” to hear their victims tell it; “repurposers” by their own reckoning.

As Chief of Intelligence for Non-Anaden Affairs, Eren Savitas’ job is to protect the Advocacy from all manner of alien threats: sabotage, assassination, insurgency and, way down the list, theft. So when he spots a Hesgyr running off with valuable technology, he follows the alien home—and discovers a civilization unlike any he’s ever encountered.

Yes, the Hesgyr are thieves. But they are also being hunted. Systematically exterminated by an insidious enemy they can’t see, touch or find. Eren finds himself drawn ever deeper into the Hesgyr’s fascinating yet labyrinthine world as he races against time to solve the mystery of the deadly attacks. What he discovers is a complex web of loyalties and betrayals, of grudges and grievances millennia old—and beneath it all, a secret that may hold the key to the survival of more than one civilization.

The Thief is a humorous, pulse-pounding sci-fi adventure about alien culture clashes, the flaws and foibles that transcend species, and the satisfaction that comes from breaking all the rules to save the day.

THE UNIVERSE WITHIN

RELEASE DATE: 2025

* A stand-alone adventure set in the Amaranthe universe *

TEASER:

Thousands of years ago, the Elakri were a galaxy-spanning civilization—until they were forced to hide themselves away in the folds of space to escape an unstoppable foe. But what was once their salvation soon became their prison.

Alex Solovy and Caleb Marano hunt the cosmos for signs of an ancient enemy’s return. When they detect a breach in the fabric of space, however, they discover something wholly unexpected: a people lost in time and space, who have forgotten all they once were. Returning the Elakri to their proper place among the stars seems the least they can do, but first they have to survive a strange and dangerous world where none of the usual rules apply.
